InfoThe geared fivebar linkage (shown at the bottom of each figure) and the fourbar (top) are cognate linkages as they generate the same coupler curve. The fivebar is constructed by drawing links parallel to the original fourbar, as shown in the left figure. A three-gear set couples the two links shown in purple so they turn in the same direction and speed. Note that each purple gear is fixed to the respective purple link, and an idle gear is meshed between the two purple gears.
