USING STARSQL WITH NETSOFT' DYNACOMM/ELITE STARSQL 1.04 September 19, 1995 Copyright 1995, StarWare Connectivity Services, Inc. The NetSoft DynaComm/Elite product provides 3270 and APPC connectivity to IBM hosts through a variety of LAN and other interfaces, including ethernet, token ring, and SDLC. StarSQL uses the CPI-C interface to access communication services provided by NetSoft DynaComm/Elite. To use StarSQL in conjunction with NetSoft DynaComm/Elite, first set up and configure NetSoft DynaComm Elite according to the instructions provided by NetSoft. NOTE: If you are using NetSoft DynaComm/Elite 3.51 or earlier, please contact NetSoft at 714/753-0800 to receive an update of the file "MPXTX.dll". If you do not have this update, you will be unable to connect to your IBM host. If you are familiar with NetSoft's BBS (714-753-0380), the file will be available in the DynaComm/Elite APPC area under the name "DynaComm/Elite APPC DYNASTAR.ZIP". Setting Up NetSoft DynaComm/Elite for Use with StarSQL: 1. If you will be using a LAN connection, install IBM LAN Support (Windows 3.1) or MSDLC (Windows for Workgroups). 2. Install NetSoft DynaComm/Elite. 3. Select ÒCommunications" from the Settings Menu. 4. The Communications dialog allows you to configure 3270 or APPC. Select APPC. 5. The APPC Communications Settings dialog displays. From this screen, you will need to configure the following items: Physical Link. A list of choices displays. Version 3.51 allows you to select from seven choices. Local LU Profile. LU Name corresponds to the name that the IBM host associates with your PC. Set LU Address to 00. Set LU Usage to Default. This indicates that this LU profile will be used by CPI-C as its default Local LU. Transmission Service Mode Profile. Add a Mode Profile to describe data transmission characteristics. Initial Session Limit Profile. Add an Initial Session Limit profile to configure session initialization limits, such as the number of sessions you want to be automatically activated. Partner LU Profile. Add a Partner LU profile to configure information concerning the IBM host. Subsystem Management Profile. Enter the PU name and Network Name for the PC. Set Initial Link State to "Active". CPI-C Side Information. CPI-C side information allows you to create names for Symbolic Destinations. Symbolic Destination Name corresponds to the Symbolic Destination Name used when configuring StarSQL's network connection. For each Symbolic Destination Name, you have the option to enter Conversation Security, Remote User ID, Remote Password, and Remote TP Name. As these fields are overriden by StarSQL, it is not necessary to enter information in them. Partner LU Name corresponds to the name of a Partner LU Profile. Mode Name corresponds to the name of a Transmission Service Mode Profile. You have now completed the NetSoft DynaComm/Elite configuration. Configuring a StarSQL Data Source: 1. Select "NetSoft DynaComm/Elite" as your Network Server. 2. Select Setup. Enter the Symbolic Destination Name you configured in the CPI-C side information. Before you attempt to use NetSoft DynaComm/Elite from StarSQL, verify that NetSoft DynaComm/Elite is running.
