Before you can use the software you have to obtain from Altera your unique License File. By following the procedure described below you will receive a License File that enables all of the features of MAX+plus II that are used in "Fundamentals of Digital Logic with VHDL Design." These features are a SUPERSET of the features provided in the MAX+plus II configuration that is called "MAX+plus II 9.23 Baseline." The first time you start MAX+plus II on your computer the software will display a window titled "MAX+plus II Copy Protection." This window will ask you the following question: "Would you like information on how to obtain a free MAX+plus II Baseline license?" ***** ANSWER "NO" ****** to this question. The Baseline configuration of MAX+plus II does NOT include all of the features of the software that are used in the text book. To obtain your License File you have to use the World Wide Web as described below. Obtaining from Altera your MAX+PLUS II License File --------------------------------------------------- To obtain your MAX+plus II License File, go to the following URL on the World Wide Web: http://www.altera.com/maxplus2-student The procedure for obtaining a License File for the version of MAX+plus II provided with "Fundamentals of Digital Logic with VHDL Design" is identical to the procedure given on the WEB page for Students who are using the Student version of MAX+plus II. First, please read the information below and then click on the appropriate Web page link and follow the instructions. As part of the procedure you will be asked to provide the serial number of the hard disk on which you have installed MAX+plus II. One way to obtain this serial number is to start MAX+plus II (see instructions below) and then, inside MAX+plus II, click on the Options menu. In the Options menu click on License Setup and then in the window that opens click on "System Info." The hard disk serial number is then displayed. You can start the MAX+plus II software as you would any Windows program, by using the Windows Start button. The software included with the book includes all the features of the Baseline configuration plus some important additional features. As we said before, the first time you start MAX+plus II it will ask you whether you want instructions on obtaining a free license to use Baseline. **** ANSWER "NO" **** because these instructions are not applicable to you, and immediately go to the following web site to obtain your license file: http://www.altera.com/maxplus2-student Once you have provided to Altera the required information to obtain your License File, the file will be emailed to you along with instructions on using the License File.
