The Quartus® II Software Starter Suite CD-ROM contains the following:

Quartus II Web Edition: 

Entry-level environment for FPGA and CPLD design including design entry, synthesis, place-and-route, 
verification, and programming. The Quartus II Web Edition software supports devices from all mainstream 
Altera device families. For more information on the Quartus II Web Edition software,

Nios Embedded Processor OpenCore Plus Evaluation Edition: 

Evaluation edition of the Nios embedded processor can be used to evaluate the Nios processor prior to 
purchase of a development kit.  Can be used for software development and board-level design verification. 
Includes the GNUPro software development suite for the Nios embedded processor. Note, to use the on-chip 
instrumentation (OCI) debug module you will need to enable TalkBack in the 
Quartus II Web Edition software by running the qtb_install.exe program from the <quartus_install_path>/bin directory.  


DSP Builder Evaluation: 

Evaluation version of the interface between The Mathworks MATLAB and Simulink system-level design tools
and the Quartus II software for digital signal processing (DSP) algorithm development and implementation. 
Requires The MathWorks MATLAB version 6.1 and higher and Simulink version 4.1 or higher for operation. 
Evaluation version allows simulation in The MathWorks Simulink environment only. VHDL file generation 
requires purchase of a DSP Builder license from Altera. Installing the DSP Builder software evaluation 
also installs the DSP Builder readme file and user guide documentation.

HardCopy & Quartus II Movie

Short movie that provides an overview of how HardCopy Stratix ASIC-alternative devices and Quartus II software minimize risk, 
reduce development cost, and improve time to market. Also provides an overview of the Quartus II design environment for FPGA, CPLD, 
and HardCopy devices.  

Operating System Support:

All software on this CD-ROM is supported on Microsoft Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows NT. 
 
Licensing:

To enable and use the Quartus II Web Edition software you will need to request and install a free license. The easiest way to get a 
license is to install the Quartus II Web Edition and select "Request updated license file from the web" and fill out the requested 
information to get your license file via email. Alternatively, You can visit the the Altera web site licensing center at 
www.altera.com/licensing to request a license. The DSP Builder evaluation software does not require a license file for operation.  

For your reference, you can use the folowing instructions to specify the location of your license file after you save it to your computer's hard drive:

To specify the license file in the Windows NT Control Panel, follow these steps:

	1. Choose Settings (Control Panel in the Windows Start menu).  
	2. Double-click the System icon in the Control Panel window.  
	3. Click the Environment tab in the System Properties dialog box.  
 	4. Click the System Variable list to highlight it, and then in the Variable box, type LM_LICENSE_FILE.  
	5. In the Value box, type <path to license file>\<license_file_name> (e.g., c:\quartus2we\license.dat)  
	6. Click SET then click OK.  

To specify the license file in the Windows 2000 or Windows XP Control Panel, follow these steps:

	1. Choose Settings (Control Panel in the Windows Start menu).  
	2. Double-click the System icon in the Control Panel window.  
	3. Click the Advanced tab in the System Properties dialog box.   
 	4. Click Environment Variables.   
 	5. Click the System Variable list to highlight it, and then click New.     
 	6. Type LM_LICENSE_FILE in the Variable box.    
	7. Type <path to license file>\<license_file_name> in the Value box (e.g., c:\quartus2we\license.dat)
	8. Click OK.
