Rashid, ISBN: 0-13-101988-0, copyright Pearson Education, Inc., 2004. This CD's ISBN is 0-13-142344-4. 2. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS Minimum hardware requirements: * In addition to the minimum processor required by your operating system, this application requires at least an Intel Pentium 90 MHz or equivalent processor. * Windows 98 or Windows NT. * In addition to the minimum RAM required by your operating system, this application requires at least 16 MB RAM (32 Megs RAM recommended). * 90MB of free hard disk space. * CD-ROM drive. * Mouse or similar pointing device. REQUIRED HARDWARE * A printer is required to print files. BROWSER Internet access through browser Netscape 4.79 or 6.1, or Internet Explorer 5.5 or 6.0 will be helpful for online access to the PSpice software, resources, and library models. THIRD-PARTY SOFTWARE Word processing software such as Microsoft Word 7.0 (or higher) or Word Perfect 7.0 (or higher) will be needed for preparing a technical report, which may need imported PSpice schematics and simulation plots. Microsoft Paint 5.0 (or higher) or other image manipulation software may be needed to cut and paste schematics and plots when preparing a technical report. Pearson does not offer Technical Support on Third-Party software. 3. CD-ROM CONTENTS This CD is intended for standalone use only and it contains the following: A. The student version of OrCAD Capture Lite(R) version 9.2. This is an OrCAD version of PSpice Schemtics(R) with more features and includes the PSpice A-D Lite. Its window platform is different from that of the PSpice Schematics(R) and its file extensions are .OPJ (for project) and .DSN (for design). B. A user-defined model library file: Rashid_PCE3_MODEL.LIB (with an extension .LIB). This file, which contains the models of the devices and elements used as examples in the book, must be included from the Analysis menu of PSpice Schematics. Without this file being included while running the simulation, it will not run and will give errors. C. The PSpice circuit files (with an extension .CIR) in the folder Rashid_PCE3_AD Circuits. These files contain the circuit descriptions and SPICE commands of all the example circuits and they are run from the PSpice AD Lite simulator. D. The PSpice Schematics (with extensions .SCH, .SIM) in the folder Rashid_PCE3_PSpice_Schematics. These files contain the PSpice schematics and setup of all the example circuits and they are run from the Microsim Design Lab(R) version 8.0, or PSpice Schemtics(R) version 9.1 sumulator. E. The OrCAD Capture files (with extensions .DSN, .OPJ, .SIM) in the folder Rashid_PCE3_Orcad_Capture. These files contain the OrCAD schematics and setup of all the example circuits and they are run from the OrCAD Capture Lite(R) version 9.2 simulator. F. The file 'msim_evl.ini' which is required for importing PSpice Schematics files to OrCAD Capture files. OrCAD Capture folder may not have the msim_evl.ini file and you must find the location of that file in your computer. If you cannot locate the file, you can copy the 'msim_evl.ini' file from the enclosed CD to your window folder i.e. C:\WINNT so that its location becomes C:\WINNT\msim_evl.ini. G. ReadMe file. STUDENT VERSION OF ORCAD CAPTURE LITE(R) These release notes apply specifically to the OrCAD Capture Lite Version 9.2. For detailed information about using a particular product, please refer to the online Help and documentation for that product. The Student Version of OrCAD is intended for use by college students and professors who are interested in learning about analog and mixed-signal simulation. It is not intended to demonstrate the capabilities of any product other than OrCAD. Because it is distributed freely, certain limitations have been imposed on the libraries and functionality. If you are interested in obtaining a fully functional version of OrCAD, please visit www.orcad.com For help using OrCAD, visit the OrCAD community at: www.orcadpcb.com Contents of ORCAD CAPTURE LITE(R) (a) What's included with the Student Version (b) Limits (c) Helpful hints (d) CADENCE DESIGN SYSTEMS, INC. - ORCAD STUDENT VERSION - SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT (a) What's included with the Student Version Limited versions of the following products are included in the Student Version of OrCAD (specify your choice during installation). OrCAD Capture Capture CIS PSpice A/D OrCAD layout (b) Limits The following limits apply to the Student Version of the products: OrCAD Circuit simulation is limited to circuits with up to: 64 nodes 10 transistors 65 digital primitive devices 10 transmission lines in total (ideal or non-ideal) 4 pairwise coupled transmission lines. Additional limits The sample library includes 39 analog and 134 digital parts Device characterization in the OrCAD Model Editor is limited to diodes. Stimulus generation in the PSpice Stimulus Editor is limited to sine waves (analog) and clocks (digital). Circuit optimization with the OrCAD Optimizer is limited to one goal, one parameter, and one constraint. You can not create CSDF format data files. You can only display simulation data from simulations performed with the Student Version of the simulator. Schematics You can place a maximum of 50 parts on a schematic design. You can only draw on size A sheets. Capture The OrCAD libraries are the only ones included. The standard Capture libraries are not included. Import facilities, netlisters, and accessories that are not relevant to OrCAD are not included. You cannot save a design that contains more than 60 parts. (You can view or create larger designs, but you can not save them.) You cannot save a library that contains more than 15 parts. (c) Helpful hints If you use the Schematics-to-Capture Translator with the Student Version, you will need to use the PSPICEEV.INI file in the local Windows or WinNT directory. Depending on the OrCAD capture version, the 'msim_evl.ini' may be required for importing PSpice Schematics files to OrCAD Capture files in the local Windows or WinNT directory. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS For installing the student version of the OrCAD Capture Lite(R) version 9.2: a Insert the CD into the CD ROM drive. b. Double-click on My Computer. c. Double-click the CD-Rom drive. d. Double-click on the folder 'PSpice Orcad Lite 9.2'. e. Double-click 'Setup.exe' file to start installation. f During the installation, select the option: Orcad and/or PSpice. g. Copy the other directories/files from the CD-Rom drive to your computer hard drive in a 'folder'. NOTE: YOU CANNOT INSTALL OR SAVE ANYTHING ON THE CD-ROM DRIVE, YOU MUST INSTALL AND COPY THE SOFTWARE AND THE CIRCUIT FILES INTO YOUR COMPUTER HARD DRIVE BEFORE RUNNING ANY SIMULATION. 6. PROBLEMS WITH IMPORTING AND TRANSLATION The PSpice or OrCAD software may have its own bugs. For example, Example 3-3.SCH will run for transfer function analysis without any problem in the Microsim Design Lab(R) version 8.0, or the PSpice Schemtics(R) version 9.1. Whereas the Example 3-3.DSN (or Example 3-3.OPJ) will fail for transfer-function analysis of the same circuit in the OrCAD Capture Lite(R) version 9.2. However, Example 3-3(a) which is modified by relocating the ground and redefining the TF output variable to V(R1:2), will run without any problem. One should go to the company website or contact the company for any known bug(s) or product update(s). 7.
