Inserting an Excel Chart

An Excel chart can be inserted into a presentation as an embedded or linked object. Information in a linked object is updated if the source file is edited. Information in an embedded object does not change if you modify the source file.

To insert an Excel chart:

  1. Click where you want the chart to appear.
  2. Select Object... on the Insert menu.
  3. Click Create from file.
  4. Browse to find the Excel file, or type the address if you know it.
  5. Select the Link box to insert the Excel file as a linked object.
  6. Click OK to insert the Excel chart.

When you insert the Excel file, only one worksheet is displayed. To display a different worksheet in the workbook, double-click the object and choose a different worksheet.

Linked objects: Linked data is stored in the source file; the destination file stores only the location of the source file and displays a representation of the linked data.

Embedded objects: An embedded object appears as it does in its source document, but is not connected to its source. Double-click the embedded object to open it in the source program.
