Entering Records Using a Form

A database must have data! Data are entered in records—through tables or forms. When entering records in a form, use Form View. For records that contain many fields, it can be easier to enter data using a Form than trying to enter the data in a datasheet.

To enter data in a form:

  1. With the form open in Form View, enter a new record.
  2. Type or select the data in the first field of the record. Press the Tab or Enter key to move to the next field.
  3. When you've entered all the data for the new record, click Tab or Enter to start another new record.
  4. Don't forget to save the changes to the form.

If one of the fields is a memo field, you won't be able to use the Enter key to move to the next field. Pressing Enter will just keep adding blank lines to the memo. Use the Tab key or the mouse to move to the next field.

There are many ways to enter a new blank record in a form:
  1. Click the New Record button on the toolbar.
  2. Click the New Record button on the navigation bar.
  3. Select New Record from the Insert menu.
  4. Click the Edit menu. Point to Go To, and click New Record.
