Importing Objects from Another Database

As you work with databases, you may find that there are common tables, forms, reports or queries. Rather than recreating the same database object for each new database, you can use the import feature to add the object to your database. When you import from another database, you are only importing the object or objects that you select—not the entire database.

To import data from another database:

  1. Click the File menu, point to Get External Data, and click Import... to open the Import dialog box.
  2. Make sure that Microsoft Access is listed in the Files of type: box.
  3. Navigate to find the database that contains the object you want to import.
  4. Double-click the database filename.
  5. Click the tab that corresponds to the type of object you want to import.
  6. Click the name of the object that you want to import.
  7. Click the OK button.

To import more than one object at a time:
  1. Click the name of the first object.
  2. Hold down the Ctrl key.
  3. Click the name of the next object.
  4. Continue until all objects are selected.
  5. Click OK.
You can add all of the objects by clicking the Select All button, then clicking OK.
