Microsoft Word 2002 is a word processing program that enables you to create many types of documents including letters, resumes, reports, proposals, Web pages, and more. Word's advanced editing capabilities allow you to quickly and easily perform tasks such as checking your spelling and finding text in a long document. Robust formatting allows you to produce professional looking documents with stylized fonts, layouts, and graphics. Printing and file management can be managed directly from the Word window. In short, everything you need to create polished professional and personal documents is available in Word.
Unlike past versions of Word, the Office Assistant no longer appears automatically. Office XP allows you to access a Help topic through the Ask a Question box on the menu bar. When you type a question in the box and press Enter on your keyboard, a list of Help topics appears for you to choose from. Click an option to launch Microsoft Word Help and go directly to that topic.
The task pane organizes common tasks that you use and appears next to your document. Features such as Styles and Formatting, the Office Clipboard, Insert ClipArt, and New Document are displayed in the task pane. You can easily navigate between features by using the arrows at the top of the pane. You can close the task pane at any time by clicking the close button at the upper right-hand corner.
As you work in Word 2002, you will see in-place buttons appear in your text. These buttons are called smart tags. Smart tags allow you to choose from a list of options to automatically change your document from the document window, rather than opening a dialog box. For example, when you type a second list in a document, a smart tag will appear. Click the arrow on the button to get a list of options to choose from. You can restart the numbering of the new list from inside the document, rather than from the Bullets and Numbering dialog box.
In Word 2002 the Clip Gallery has been upgraded to the Clip Organizer. The Clip Organizer holds hundreds of clips-graphic, audio and video files. You can easily search for clips from the task pane. The new Clip Organizer also makes it easy to refine your search limiting it to media types and collections. Using the Clip Organizer, you can organize your own collection lists, as well as search for clips online.
