Setting Up the Sheet for Printing

If you have a lot of information that will not print on a single page, then you will most likely want to print row and column labels on every page. In the Page Setup dialog box you can define which rows and columns will be repeated on every printed page, and then see a preview of what your printed page will look like.

To repeat rows and columns on every printed page:

  1. Click Page Setup... on the File menu, and click the Sheet tab.
  2. In the Rows to repeat at top: box, type the row reference(s) using the format $1:$1. This example would repeat the first row only. $1:$3 would repeat the first three rows.
  3. In the Columns to repeat at left: box, type the column reference(s) using the format $A:$A. This example would repeat the first column only. $A:$C would repeat the first three columns.
  4. Click OK.

Be sure to use the Print Preview button to see what your printed worksheet will look like.

The Sheet tab on the Page Setup dialog box also includes options to print gridlines, change the print order, print cell errors, and adjust the quality of your printed worksheet.

Click in the Rows to repeat at top: box or the Columns to repeat at left: box and then click the row or column in your worksheet that you want to repeat.
