Inserting and Editing Hyperlinks

A hyperlink is text or a graphic that when clicked opens another page or file. You can use hyperlinks to link a cell in a worksheet to another part of the workbook or to another document, such as a Web page.

To create a text hyperlink:

  1. Select the cell in which you want to place the link.
  2. Click the Insert Hyperlink button on the Standard toolbar to open the Insert Hyperlink dialog box.
  3. Select an option under Link to: and select the file to which you want to link.
  4. Type the text of the link in the Text to display: box.
  5. Click OK to insert the hyperlink into your worksheet.

A ScreenTip is a bubble that appears when the mouse is placed over the link. Click the Screen Tip... button in the Insert Hyperlink dialog box to add a ScreenTip that includes a more meaningful description of the hyperlink.

To open the Insert Hyperlink dialog box:

  1. Press + on the keyboard.
  2. Right-click the cell in which you want the link; select Hyperlink... from the shortcut menu.
  3. Select the cell in which you want the link; select Hyperlink... from the Insert menu.
