Creating Presentations Using Design Templates

A design template contains predefined styles for your slides, including background images, colors, text placeholders, bullet styles, and fonts. Templates make it easy for people without a lot of graphic design experience to quickly create highly stylized presentations.

To create a presentation using the design templates:

  1. Select New... from the File menu.
  2. Select From Design Template from the New Presentation task pane.
  3. Select a Slide Design from the Slide Design task pane.
  4. Your new presentation is created based on the template you selected.

If you can't find what you are looking for in the preinstalled templates, you can find more templates on Microsoft's Office Web site. To access these templates, click the Templates on Office Online link in the New Presentation task pane. PowerPoint will launch your Web browser and automatically navigate to the template section of Microsoft's Office Web site.

When using templates, carefully choose a template that will reflect the feeling you want in your presentation. For example, if you are giving a corporate presentation, you might want to choose a more sophisticated template with muted colors and subtle textures for backgrounds.

You can quickly apply a template to your presentation by using the Slide Design task pane. To display the Slide Design task pane, you can:

  1. Click the Slide Design button on the Formatting toolbar.
  2. Select Slide Design... from the Format menu.

Click a design template in the task pane to apply it to all the slides in your presentation
