Working with the Slide Master

The Slide Master defines what each slide in your presentation will look like. It contains the formatting and placement for all the elements that make up a slide, including the title, main text, background, and image placeholders. When you make changes to the Slide Master, all slides in the presentation will reflect those changes.

To make changes to your presentation using the Slide Master:

  1. Click the View menu, point to Master, and click Slide Master.
  2. Click a placeholder and make your changes to the Slide Master.
  3. When you are done making changes to the Slide Master, click the Close Master View button.

From the Slide Master toolbar, you can add a new master, delete a master, rename a master, and preserve a master.

Use the Slide Master to make global formatting changes to your presentations. You should use the Slide Master to change fonts, change bullets, add artwork to multiple slides, and change placeholder positions and formatting. You can also create header and footer text, which will appear at the top and bottom of every slide and handout.
