ORACLE'S DEVELOPER/2000 AND DESIGNER/2000 EXPLOIT FUNCTIONALITY OF ORACLE(R) UNIVERSAL SERVER

Oracle's Second Generation Client/Server Development Toolset Delivers Tight Integration and Support for Diverse Data Types

SAN FRANCISCO, Oracle Corp. today announced that Developer/2000 and Designer/2000 will fully support the comprehensive functionality of Oracle Universal(R) Server(R), the world's first all purpose server. The link between Oracle's second-generation client/server development and modeling toolset and Oracle's flagship database is further strengthened with the introduction of Oracle Universal Server and Developer/2000 and Designer/2000 upgrades this year. It was announced here today at Oracle's Developer Conference.

Tight integration between these key-IS solutions enables users to develop applications more quickly and are seamlessly integrated to fully exploit the robust functionality of Oracle Universal Server. As the first optimized toolset on the market to support Oracle Universal Server, Developer/2000 and Designer/2000 enable application developers to leverage all diverse data types contained in Oracle Universal Server, including video, text, spatial and relational.

Developer/2000 Enables Video Applications

Oracle Video Option, a component of Oracle Universal Server, is an end-to-end software solution that enables customers to store, manage, and deliver multimedia data from a server to a client over the corporate network. Developers can build client applications that exploit the functionality of Oracle Video Option with future versions of Developer/2000 via the new, fully supported OCX functionality. Examples of multimedia business applications

include point-of-sale kiosks, interactive training-on-demand, corporate communications, multimedia catalogs, marketing information systems, and more.

Text Integration Available in Developer/2000

Oracle ConText Option, part of Oracle Universal Server, enables the handling of unstructured text with the same security, scalability, integrity, and intelligence as structured data. Because the interface to the Oracle ConText Option is standard SQL, Developer/2000 applications can easily provide text-related functionality including the retrieval, management, reduction, and classification of text in several languages and formats.

Spatial Data Integration Supported by Developer/2000

Oracle Spatial Data Option, part of Oracle Universal Server, enables spatial data to be efficiently stored, accessed, and manipulated in the database in the same manner as structured data. Many leading third party vendors of GIS (graphical information systems), scientific, demographic, and temporal applications will leverage this spatial functionality and will be integrated with Developer/2000 to present a consistent interface integrating textual and spatial information to users.

Enhanced Support for Oracle Universal Server

Developer/2000 will exploit all the new PL/SQL V2.3 language shared by the Oracle database and development tools. Additional support for the relational core module includes enhanced debugging, extended 3-tier architecture support, enhanced replication, improved query and OLTP processing performance.

Developer/2000, Designer/2000 Scalability

Developer/2000 is the first client/server development tool to deliver workgroup-through- enterprise scalability and the only tool on the market that uses a consistent programming language on both client and server. Scalable deployment is a reality with Developer/2000 because of several core strengths found in the product, including drag-and-drop application partitioning, object-orientation, team productivity, and tight integration with Oracle's

Designer/2000. Developer/2000 also supports heterogeneous database access to a wide variety of databases including Microsoft SQL Server, DB2, IBM as well as RDBM's products from Informix, Sybase and CA-OpenIngres.

Designer/2000 is Oracle's design tool for modeling business functions that underlie an application. The product supports business process reengineering, system analysis, software design and code generation. It is used to design an application before actually building it, and its code-generation capabilities allow developers to complete applications more productively and efficiently.
