Extends Productivity and Reliability
of Enterprise Modeling Tool to Corporate Intranet Application
Developers
Empowers Developers to Easily
Support Migration and Coexistence Between Client/Server and Web
Applications
AMSTERDAM/SAN FRANCISCO, April 15,
1996-Oracle Corp. today announced the immediate availability of
the Designer/2000 WebServer Generator, the first modeling tool to
automatically generate Web applications. In combination with its
existing client/server support, the new Web generation capability in Designer/2000
will enable developers to easily build applications for both
client/server and web environments with no additional effort.
This announcement was made internationally today at the European Oracle
User Group (EOUG) in Amsterdam and DB EXPO in San Francisco.
"The lack of integration between
Web development tools and enterprise servers has been a major
obstacle for enterprise developers trying to build for and migrate to
a corporate Intranet configuration," said Ian Thacker,
senior vice president of Oracle's Designer/2000 product group.
"Designer/2000's WebServer Generator is the only product
that addresses this obstacle by leveraging tight integration with
Oracle( Universal Server( to deliver dynamic data in both
client/server and corporate Intranet environments."
Designer/2000 is Oracle's
repository-based tool for modeling the business functions that
underlie an application. Designer/2000 then automatically
generates a running application which delivers database
information that can be accessed either through a Developer/2000,
Visual Basic or now, a dynamic HTML interface.
The Designer/2000 WebServer Generator
delivers the same modeling and team productivity benefits as are
achieved through its already available client/server generators.
With the new Web functionality in Designer/2000, customers can
model an application once and then easily deploy the application
across the enterprise regardless of the departmental
configuration of client/server or the newly emerging corporate
Intranet.
In a related announcement made today,
Oracle outlined its strategy for extending the advanced
functionality of all its leading application development tools to corporate
Intranet and public Internet developers. Oracle's development
tools product line consists of Power Objects, Developer/2000,
Designer/2000, and the new Oracle PowerBrowser. Together these
products address the complete life cycle of corporate Intranet
development.
Designer/2000 is available on Windows
3.1, Windows 95 and Windows NT. Pricing for the product is $3995
in the U.S. Supported customers of Designer/2000 and prior Oracle
CASE releases are eligible to receive the upgrade at no charge.
