ORACLE CORPORATION LICENSES INTERSOLV DATADIRECT MIDDLEWARE TECHNOLOGY

Oracle Power Objects extends open connectivity with integration of datadirect ODBC drivers

ROCKVILLE, Md. and REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Aug. 12 /PRNewswire/ via Individual Inc. -- INTERSOLV (Nasdaq: ISLI), the leader in applications enablement, and Oracle Corporation (Nasdaq: ORCL) today announced an extension to the companies' strategic partnership. INTERSOLV's DataDirect ODBC Drivers will be integrated into Oracle Power Objects version 2.0, the forthcoming release of Oracle's object-oriented, client/server development tool for BASIC developers. With this new licensing agreement, Oracle customers are availed of high-performance data connectivity through the industry's leading ODBC solution -- DataDirect.

Through this partnership, Oracle Power Objects extends its reach to the range of non-Oracle database users, empowering Oracle Power Objects developers to build client/server applications that tap data from all ODBC- compliant data sources. INTERSOLV's DataDirect middleware will be the standard data connectivity method to non-Oracle data sources provided within Oracle Power Objects, providing transparent data access to critical business information. Oracle Power Objects will bundle INTERSOLV's 16-bit and 32-bit DataDirect ODBC Drivers for Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows NT, Macintosh and Power Mac operating systems, enabling user access to more than 35 ODBC- compliant databases.

"This new offering vastly extends our connectivity options," said Rick Greenwald, chief technologist at Metamor, a client/server consulting firm in Chicago, Illinois. "We can use Oracle Power Objects to build applications that consolidate data from diverse data sources like dBase, Excel and Access and migrate this data from desktop to client/server databases."

"By integrating DataDirect with Oracle Power Objects, the benefits of tight database integration are now available to a wealth of new users beyond the traditional Oracle community," said Sohaib Abbasi, senior vice president of the Oracle Tools Division. "With Oracle Power Objects' drag and drop metaphor, it will be easier than ever to build database applications around these data sources and to upsize them to true client/server applications. We selected INTERSOLV's DataDirect ODBC Drivers because of their performance, quality and cross-platform support."

Today's announcement is an extension of INTERSOLV's partnership with Oracle. In 1995, Oracle selected INTERSOLV as its ODBC technology and support provider for Oracle's 16-bit ODBC Driver. In addition, Oracle provided their ODBC customers with INTERSOLV's DataDirect 32 and 16-bit ODBC Drivers for Oracle7. Also previously announced, Oracle licensed INTERSOLV ODBC Drivers for Sybase, Informix and Ingres to bundle with Developer/2000, Oracle's second generation application development tool for the enterprise. INTERSOLV DataDirect Drivers were selected as the most robust data access offerings after undergoing Oracle's rigorous engineering performance evaluations.

"Building powerful database applications requires fast, robust data access. By selecting the DataDirect Drivers, Oracle is providing Power Objects developers with the high-performance data access they demand," said Ed Peters, INTERSOLV vice president and general manager of DataDirect. "Providing the most comprehensive combination of platforms and databases available, DataDirect is the industry's leading cross-platform ODBC solution. Oracle Power Object customers will be joining more than one million users achieving high-performance data connectivity with DataDirect."
