NBC NEWS DEPLOYS ORACLE POWER OBJECTS POLLING APPLICATION FOR PRIMARY ELECTIONS AND PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN

Gawiser Associates Leverages Power Objects Productivity and Ease-of-Use to Deliver Product After Three Month Development Cycle

AMSTERDAM/SAN FRANCISCO, April 15, 1996-Oracle Corp. today announced that NBC News, a principle provider of news and information across the United States, has implemented an application for tabulation of polling information built using Oracle Power Objects, Oracle's object-oriented visual development tool for cross platform client/server development. The application, NBC News Decision Analysis System (DAS), was built by Gawiser Associates Inc, a computer consulting firm specializing in business information collection and management. The whole process-from consulting, to prototyping, to application development and implementation-took only three months. This announcement was made internationally today at the European Oracle User Group (EOUG) in Amsterdam and DB EXPO in San Francisco.

"NBC News made the decision to update its legacy mainframe election system to a client/server solution," said Dr. Sheldon Gawiser, president of Gawiser Associates. "In the transition, the network wanted to retain control over its information while delivering the information to broadcasters in a format that was easy to read and understand. Oracle Power Objects' intuitive, graphical interface empowered the developers on the project to deliver complex information, in an easy-to-use environment, in a fraction of the development time."

"We needed to build this application in a tool that would keep development costs down, that would run automatically against the database without having to write too much code, and would work across both Mac and Windows platforms," added Gawiser. "We evaluated Oracle Power Objects against other competitive tools such as Microsoft Visual Basic and it was clearly a superior tool to meet the requirements of both our customers and our developers."

"We have done some great work with Gawiser Associates and are really pleased that a critical news network like NBC News has decided to implement a Power Objects- based application," said Marc Benioff, senior vice president of Oracle's Web/Workgroup Division. "NBC is the most recent example of customers who are betting their credibility and competitive position on Oracle technology."
