PRC AVIATION BUILDS ROBUST AND POWERFUL AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE APPLICATION USING ORACLE POWER OBJECTS

Oracle's Visual Client/Server Toolset for Workgroup Applications Offers High Productivity to Developers and Strong Database Connectivity and Scalability for Users

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., July 8, 1996-Oracle Corp. today announced that PRC Aviation LLC of Tucson, Ariz., a leading provider of computer planning and support systems to the airline industry, has begun licensing an aircraft maintenance application built with Oracle Power Objects, Oracle's visual client/server development environment for the workgroup. PRC Aviation's developers found that Oracle Power Objects' object-oriented capabilities boosted productivity and cut development time. Scalable across multiple departments, Oracle Power Objects' applications leverage native database connectivity to give users rapid response time.

PRC Aviation used Oracle Power Objects to develop the "Technical Engineering And Maintenance System" (TEAMS), an application for advanced computerized planning and control of aircraft maintenance procedures. "We selected Oracle Power Objects over Visual Basic because it provided the ease of use that enhanced our development productivity," said R. Dixon Speas, president of PRC Aviation. "Despite the size and complexity of the application, we completed the TEAMS project in just four months using Oracle Power Objects." Developers achieved this productivity and short development time through use of Oracle Power Objects' object-oriented functionalities, including reusable components and multi-level inheritance.

"PRC Aviation's success is a testament to the productivity advantages of Oracle Power Objects," said Sohaib Abbasi, senior vice president for the Oracle Tools and Groupware Division. "Oracle Power Objects offers easy database integration, high performance and object-oriented productivity, enabling it to deliver rapid development when tools like Visual Basic fall short."

Another important requirement for the TEAMS application was strong database connectivity. With native drivers to Oracle® Universal Server®, Microsoft SQL Server and Sybase SQL Server, Oracle Power Objects offers users superior processing and application performance.

Made up of over 100 software modules, TEAMS is utilized across several departments which may principally work with certain components, but can still share information with other departments quickly and easily. While offering strong scalability for users, the modular structure also eases program maintenance for system administrators. TEAMS is now available for Windows 3.1 and is scheduled for availability on Windows 95 and Windows NT later this year.

Licensed already to the Douglas Aircraft Company, a division of McDonnell Douglas Company, TEAMS is expected to be rolled out by thirty airlines worldwide. According to company officials, the TEAMS application at Douglas Aircraft Company supports and sustains the maintenance requirements of projects utilizing the application both effectively and economically. The open architecture program also supports airline maintenance program management needs.

Oracle Power Objects is Oracle's visual client/server development tool to enable Windows and Macintosh developers to rapidly build robust workgroup information systems. It combines strong database integration with established industry standards such as BASIC and OLE, new techniques such as visual object orientation, and a unique drag and drop metaphor for ease of use.
