READ CAREFULLY: This Microsoft End-User License Agreement ("EULA") is a legal agreement between you (either an individual or a single entity) and Microsoft Corporation for the Microsoft software product identified above, which includes computer software and associated media and printed materials, and may include "online" or electronic documentation ("SOFTWARE PRODUCT" or "SOFTWARE"). By installing, copying, or otherwise using the SOFTWARE PRODUCT, you agree to be bound by the terms of this EULA. If you do not agree to the terms of this agreement, promptly return the SOFTWARE PRODUCT to the place from which you obtained it for a full refund. SOFTWARE PRODUCT LICENSE 1. GRANT OF LICENSE. Microsoft grants you the right to use this SOFTWARE PRODUCT in the manner provided below. (a) You may use the program designated as the Viewer Application ("Application") on any computer system for the purpose of accessing the SOFTWARE PRODUCT. (i) If you have purchased a Single User License ("Single User License") from Microsoft, you may use the Application to access the SOFTWARE PRODUCT. (ii) If you have purchased a Microsoft license Pak (referred to as an "MLP" or "Additional User License") from Microsoft in conjunction with a Single User License, you may make the number of additional copies of the computer software portion of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT authorized on the printed copy of this EULA, and you may use each copy in the manner specified herein. (iii) If you have purchased the Single Server-Unlimited Users license ("Single Server License"), unlimited additional users may access the SOFTWARE PRODUCT over a local network server, however, the SOFTWARE PRODUCT may be accessed on only one network server. To load and access the SOFTWARE PRODUCT over additional and/or multiple network servers, you must purchase the appropriate number of Single Server-Unlimited User licenses. (b) You and the additional licensees under Sections 1(a)(ii) and 1(a)(iii) (collectively "Additional Licensees") may make an unlimited number of copies of any material copied from the SOFTWARE PRODUCT or from other written materials accompanying the SOFTWARE PRODUCT, provided that such copies shall be used only for internal purposes or are provided to your and/or any Additional Licensees' customer(s) as may be necessary for you and/or any Additional Licensees to provide software or hardware support, provided that the SOFTWARE PRODUCT or other written materials accompanying the SOFTWARE PRODUCT(i) are not distributed for profit, (ii) are not modified, (iii) maintain all copyright notices, and (iv) are not authorized by you and/or Additional Licensees to be further distributed by the licensee/end user, except as provided in Sections 4 and 5. 2. COPYRIGHT. The SOFTWARE, including any images, photographs, animations, video, audio, music, and text incorporated in the SOFTWARE, is owned by Microsoft or its suppliers and is protected by United States copyright laws and international treaty provisions. You may not reproduce or distribute the SOFTWARE or any written materials accompanying the SOFTWARE except as otherwise provided herein. 3. OTHER RESTRICTIONS. You and/or Additional Licensees may not rent or lease the SOFTWARE PRODUCT. You and/or Additional Licensees may make a permanent transfer of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT or your right to use the Application (as an additional licensee) by providing Microsoft written notice of your name, company, address, and the name, company, and address of the person to whom you are transferring the rights granted herein. In the event of a transfer, you and/or Additional Licensees may not retain copies of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT and accompanying written materials and the recipient must agree to the terms of this Agreement. You and/or Additional Licensees may not reverse engineer, de-compile or disassemble the SOFTWARE. If the SOFTWARE PRODUCT is an update or has been updated, any transfer of the license to use the SOFTWARE PRODUCT must include the most recent update and all prior versions. Without prejudice to any other rights, Microsoft may terminate this EULA if you fail to comply with the terms and conditions of this EULA. In such event, you must destroy the SOFTWARE PRODUCT and all copies of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT. 4. SAMPLE CODE. Microsoft grants to you and/or any Additional Licensees a royalty-free, right to use and modify the source code version and to reproduce and distribute the object code version of the sample code, icons, cursors, and bitmaps provided within the Sample Code bin/folder on the SOFTWARE ("Sample Code") provided that you and/or Additional Licensees: (a) distribute the Sample Code only in conjunction with and as a part of your and/or Additional Licensees' product; (b) do not use Microsoft's name, logo, or trademarks to market your and/or Additional Licensees' software application product; and (c) agree to indemnify, hold harmless, and defend Microsoft and its suppliers from and against any claims or lawsuits, including attorney's fees, that arise or result from your and/or Additional Licensees' distribution of your software application product. 5. REDISTRIBUTABLE COMPONENTS. Microsoft grants you and/or any Additional Licensees a non-exclusive royalty-free right to reproduce and distribute the included files containing drivers, patches and appnotes ("Files"), as well as the .DLL files included as part of the Sample Code provided that you and/or Additional Licensees: (a) distribute the Files for your and/or Additional Licensees' internal use only or to your and/or Additional Licensees' customer(s) as may be necessary for you and/or Additional Licensees to provide software or hardware support, and provided that (i) the Files are not distributed for profit, (ii) the Files are used only in conjunction with licensed copies of Microsoft products, (iii) the Files may not be modified, (iv) all copyright notices are maintained on the Files, and (v) you and/or Additional Licensees do not authorize further distribution by the licensee/end user; (b) distribute the .DLL files only in conjunction with and as a part of your and/or Additional Licensees' software product; (c) do not use Microsoft's name, logo, or trademarks to market your and/or Additional Licensees' software product; (d) agree to indemnify, hold harmless, and defend Microsoft and its suppliers from and against any claims or lawsuits, including attorneys' fees, that arise or result from the use of the Files and/or use or distribution of your and/or Additional Licensees' software product; and (e) otherwise comply with the terms of this license agreement. If you and/or Additional Licensees distribute the Files or .DLL files in violation of this Agreement, you and/or Additional Licensees agree to indemnify, hold harmless and defend Microsoft and its suppliers from and against any claims or lawsuits, including attorneys fees that arise or result from the use or distribution of the Files or .DLL files in violation of this Agreement. 6. US GOVERNMENT RESTRICTED RIGHTS. The SOFTWARE and documentation are provided with RESTRICTED RIGHTS. Use, duplication, or disclosure by the Government is subject to restrictions as set forth in subparagraph (c)(1)(ii) of The Rights in Technical Data and Computer Software clause at DFARS 252.227-7013 or subparagraphs (c)(1) and (2) of the Commercial Computer Software -- Restricted Rights 48 CFR 52.227-19, as applicable. If you acquired this product in Canada, this Agreement is governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada. Each of the parties hereto irrevocably attorns to the jurisdiction of the Province of Ontario and further agrees to commence any litigation which may arise hereunder in the courts located in the Judicial District of York, Province of Ontario. If this product was acquired outside of the United States, then local law may apply. Microsoft will not provide any technical support for this product, beyond set-up and installation support ("Support Services"). Microsoft warrants that (a) the SOFTWARE PRODUCT will perform substantially in accordance with the accompanying written materials for a period of thirty (30) days from the date of receipt, (b) To the extent allowed by applicable law, implied warranties on the SOFTWARE PRODUCT are limited to thirty (30) days, and (c) any Support Services provided by Microsoft shall substantially be as described in applicable written materials which have been provided by Microsoft to you, provided Microsoft makes no guarantee of problem resolution. CUSTOMER REMEDIES. Microsoft's and its suppliers' entire liability and your exclusive remedy shall be, at Microsoft's option, either (a) return of the price paid with respect to the SOFTWARE PRODUCT, (b) return of the price paid for the SOFTWARE PRODUCT, with respect to Support Services, or (c) repair or replacement of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT that does not meet Microsoft's Limited Warranty and which is returned to Microsoft with a copy of your receipt. This Limited Warranty is void if failure of the SOFTWARE has resulted from accident, abuse, or misapplication. Any replacement of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT will be warranted for thirty (30) days. Outside the United States, these remedies offered by Microsoft are not available without proof of purchase from an authorized international source. NO OTHER WARRANTIES. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, MICROSOFT AND ITS SUPPLIERS DISCLAIM ALL OTHER WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT OR THAT THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT IS OR WILL OPERATE ERROR-FREE, WITH REGARD TO THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT. THIS LIMITED WARRANTY GIVES YOU SPECIFIC LEGAL RIGHTS. YOU MAY HAVE OTHERS WHICH VARY FROM STATE/JURISDICTION TO STATE/JURISDICTION. LIMITATION ON LIABILITY. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MICROSOFT OR ITS SUPPLIERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES (INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF BUSINESS PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF BUSINESS INFORMATION, OR ANY OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS) ARISING OUT OF THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT, OR THE PROVISION OR FAILURE TO PROVIDE SUPPORT SERVICES, EVEN IF MICROSOFT HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. IN ANY EVENT, THE LIABILITY OF MICROSOFT OR ITS SUPPLIERS, UNDER ANY THEORY OF LIABILITY, WHETHER TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), BREACH OF WARRANTY, BREACH OF CONTRACT OR OTHERWISE, SHALL BE LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT PAID BY YOU FOR THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT RELATED TO THIS AGREEMENT. BECAUSE SOME STATES/JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF LIABILITY FOR CONSEQUENTIAL OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES, THE ABOVE LIMITATION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. _____________________________________________________________________________ GARANTIE LIMITÉE. Microsoft TechNet December 1998 (12/01/1998) ************************** MANUAL SETUP INSTRUCTIONS ************************** Please run the Microsoft TechNet Technical Information CD Setup program (SETUP.EXE) from CD1 to install TechNet on your system. Follow the manual setup instructions below ONLY if the Setup program fails. The manual setup instructions are equivalent to running Setup with the standard installation option. These instructions result in a complete installation of TechNet with the exception of transferring bookmarks and annotations from previous releases. To transfer bookmarks and annotations, you must run the Setup program. Instructions: 1. Create a new installation directory for TechNet (we've assumed C:\TNCD in the instructions below). 2. Copy the following files from the TechNet CD to C:\TNCD: tn.ico infoview.exe * technet.hlp trelnote.hlp *According to the system you are running, the InfoView executable filename will differ as shown below. Rename the file using the name shown above. \US\INFOVIEW.EXE for Intel(R), Windows NT(TM) 3.1 or higher, or Windows(R) 95 \US\INFOVW16.EXE for Windows(R) 3.x \US\INFOVWA.EXE for DEC(R) Alpha AXP(TM) \US\INFOVWM.EXE for MIPS(R) or R4000 \US\INFOVWP.EXE for Power PC(TM) 3. Edit the INFOVIEW.INI file, located in your Windows directory. If you do not have an INFOVIEW.INI file on your system, you will need to create one with the information shown below. If you do have an existing INFOVIEW.INI file, add the following sections into the existing file. In the Program Group Properties dialog box, type "Microsoft TechNet" in the Description text field. 5. In Program Manager, choose the New command from the File menu. Choose Program Item from the New Program Object dialog box to create an icon for Microsoft TechNet. In the Program Item Properties dialog box, type the following information: Description: Microsoft TechNet Command Line: c:\tncd\infoview.exe tn9812.mvb Choose TN.ICO as the icon file from the installation directory. 6. In Program Manager, choose the New command again from the File menu. Choose Program Item from the New Program Object dialog box to create an icon for the TechNet Release Notes. In the Program Item Properties dialog box, type the following information: Description: Release Notes Command Line: c:\tncd\trelnote.hlp Working Directory: c:\tncd The installation of Microsoft TechNet is now complete. WINDOWS 95 USERS ---------------- To add Microsoft TechNet to the Windows 95 task bar, follow these steps: 1. From the Windows 95 task bar, choose Settings, Taskbar. 2. In the Start Menu, Programs tab, click the Add button. 3. In the Command Line box, type the following: C:\tncd\infoview.exe tn9812.mvb 4. Click the Next button. 5. Select a folder for the new icon, and click the Next button. 6. In the Shortcut Name box, type of the following: Microsoft TechNet 7. Click the Finish button. Note: TechNet uses the Arial Super (TrueType) font, which is included with the Windows and Windows NT operating systems. If you don't have this font installed on your system, you can add it using the Add button from the Control Panel, Fonts applet.
