Installing Oracle Client Software Manager for Windows. This file should be read by users of the Oracle Client Software Manager. Also be sure to read the Release Notes included with your software media. Oracle Client Software Manager Oracle Client Software Manager enables network administrators to install software once on a shared network location rather than many times onto individual client machines. Installation is centralized; updates to software on client workstations are automatic. Oracle Client Software Manager System Administrator: - To configure other groups or to change the default configuration, run the Oracle Client Configuration Manager installed in the Oracle group. - When configuring various groups, keep in mind that a user can belong to multiple groups. Some groups may have conflicting settings associated with them. Use the Conflict Resolution Dialog to handle this situation. The conflicting products will be configured according to the settings of the Conflict Resolution Dialog. - You cannot be both the Oracle Client Software Manager administrator and an Oracle Client Software Manager client on the same machine. - When you setup the Oracle Client Software Manager on a network operating system, remember to make the shared Oracle home location accessible to your clients. - Please carefully read the chapter on "Installing and Using Oracle Client Software Manager". Oracle Client Software Manager Client: - To set up a client to use Oracle Client Software Manager, connect to the network location that the administrator connected to when the shared products were installed. - Run the Oracle Client Software Agent (sharagt.exe) from the shared Oracle home's bin directory. In the Windows File Manager, go to the shared Oracle home BIN directory and double-click on SHARAGT.EXE. The Oracle Client Software Agent will install itself on the client machine in the startup group and set up the client's local Oracle home. The default is \ORA, where OS is NT or 95 depending on platform Oracle Client Software Agent is running on. - After installing the Oracle Client Software Agent (see the chapter "Installing and Using Oracle Client Software Manager"), your Windows desktop will be automatically configured and updated to run the products that the Oracle Client Software Manager System Administrator provides for you. - The Agent is activated upon Windows startup or by the user. Upon activation, the agent compares the client's local Oracle home with the shared Oracle home set up by the administrator. If any differences are found, the Oracle Client Software Agent launches the Oracle Installer which performs updates and installs accordingly. - If you are managed by an installation of Oracle Client Software Manager, you will not be able to install other Oracle products on your machine.
