Note for Win XP users: You must install Microsoft Java Virtual Machine before carrying out the following steps.
First select the default security level (Medium) by going to Tools>Internet Options>Security. Go to the globe icon labeled Internet and under Security click on Default Level. Another way is to move the slider till it shows Medium.
However, if you've enabled Custom Level security (this gives you greater control over the security settings), remember to select the radio button Disable under Java>Java Permissions.
However if you have enabled "Custom Level" security - which allows you to have greater control over the security settings - make sure that you haven't clicked on the radio button "Disable" under Java>Java Permissions.
You may select among the other options-Custom, High, Low or Medium Safety. Also, remember to select Enable for Scripting of Java applets. This is required for running the Search facility (refer to Search this CD and Advanced Search) on the CD.
