Using the Clipboard

When you copy or cut a selection from an Office program, the selection is copied to the Windows Clipboard, which, as I mentioned earlier, is a temporary storage area. When you later paste the selection, the Office program copies the selection from the Clipboard. If you copy or cut more than one selection to the Clipboard, Windows displays the Clipboard toolbar. Unlike in previous versions of Office, the Office 2000 Clipboard can hold more than one selection. The Clipboard toolbar allows you to work with the multiple selections.

You can use the Clipboard toolbar to paste the most recent addition or any other item that the toolbar displays. Simply click the picture that represents the item you want to paste. If you don’t know which Clipboard picture represents which selection, point to the picture. Windows displays a pop-up box describing the contents of the selection.

TIP: To paste everything you’ve copied on the Clipboard to the active document, click the Paste All button. To erase the contents of the Clipboard, click the Clear Clipboard button (it’s the one with the X on it).
