The fastest way to create a template for styles you created is to open the document for which you created the styles, save the document as a template, then open the template and delete the text. After you delete the text, the styles remain in the template and can be applied by anyone who uses the template to create a document.
To create a template for the styles you created in a document, follow these steps:
1. Open the document.
2. Choose File | Save As. The Save As dialog box appears.
3. Click the Save As Type drop-down list and choose Document Template. The Templates folder appears in the Save In list at the top of the dialog box. This is where Word stores templates that appear on the General tab of the Templates dialog box. If you want the template to reside in a different category, double-click the folder representing the template category you want.
4. Type a descriptive name in the File Name box.
5. Click Save to complete the operation and close the Save As dialog box.
6. Delete all the text in the template.
7. Click the Save button to save your changes to the template.
8. Choose File | Close to close the template.
As Figure 9-8 shows, templates you store in the Templates folder appear beside the Blank Document template on the General tab of the New dialog box. To create a document with the template you created, choose File | New; click the General tab of the New dialog box, if necessary; click the template you created; and click OK.
