Changing and Recalling Messages

Suppose you compose a message to somebody, click the Send button in the Message window, and regret sending the message. Can you recall the message? Can you head it off at the pass before it is sent? It depends on whether you are connected to a network. Network users connected to an Exchange server can recall messages. As for people using Outlook over the Internet, the only way to recall a message is to go to the Outbox screen, hope the message has not been sent yet, and either change or delete the message there.

CAUTION: Messages sent by way of the Internet cannot be recalled after they are sent.

Recalling a Message That Has Been Sent

Follow these steps to recall an embarrassing or inaccurate message that you sent over a network or intranet:

1.      Click the My Shortcuts group in the Outlook bar.

2.      Click the Sent Items shortcut. You see the Sent Items folder with copies of all the messages you sent.

3.      Open the message you want to recall.

4.      Choose Actions | Recall This Message.

5.      Click the Delete Unread Copies Of This Message check box.

CAUTION: It isn't always possible to recall messages that have been sent.
